Debbie Dimoff: The great leaders that I remember have been able to create a picture of a future that is really quite dazzling.
Tasleem Thawer: You only learn about good leadership by being around good leaders.
Jinha Chung: For me, leadership is all about passion.
Jim Carfrae: If you assume the goal stays the same, the way that gets there is guaranteed to change, and often.
Who is a leader?
TT: First of all they can inspire you. So I think they have a really unique ability to look at people and figure out what motivates them and then provide those kinds of motivations to the people they are leading.
Debbie Dimoff: Someone who is able to shake it up without destroying the entire fabric of the follower’s beliefs, so that this leader will respect the old ways but start to say, ‘Without change the world will look like this; we all want to move this way to this new world; and therefore we need to change.
Jonathan Wilson: I think there is a lot of power in tapping in to insights that are latent within a community. It takes leadership to draw those together and help people see how they fit together into one cohesive vision.
Importance of vision
Tasleem Thawer: If everyone can see where the organization is headed then they are much more likely to follow that same path.
Jinha Chung: You really need to lose that fear of failure and follow your vision, follow your dreams and follow your passion.
The desire to follow
Colin Henry: We need structure as humans. And from a behavioural standpoint, without that structure, there is chaos.
Debbie Dimoff: For each one of us, there is someone that draws us because we feel that we either learn from them or they will take us somewhere where we haven’t been before – a much better place.
